ศราวิน ทองรอง เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 13 กันยายน 2533 ปัจจุบันอายุ 33 ปี ศราวิน ไม่เคยมีส่วนร่วมทางการเมืองแต่อย่างใด ก่อนลี้ภัยเขาได้ทํางานเป็นนายแพทย์ประจําอยู่ที่โรงพยาบาลจอมเทียน และเป็นนายแพทย์ชั่วคราวที่โรงพยาบาลกรุงเทพระยอง แต่เขาได้เข้าไปเขียนคอมเมนต์ในโซเชี่ยลมีเดีย และได้กล่าวถึงอะอัตริย์อูอิ๊อลว่า "ไอบอด” ซึ่งถูกตีความว่าหมิ่นพระบรมเดชานุภาพ (ขอชี้แจงว่า กษัตริย์ภูมิพลสูญเสียดวงตา 1 ข้างในระหว่างประสบอุบัติเหตุทางรถยนต์ที่สวิตเซอร์แลนด์ในปี 2491) หลังจากที่ได้เขียนข้อความดังกล่าว ก็ได้มีไฮเปอร์รอยัลลิสต์ 2 คน คือ นายแพทย์เหรียญทอง แน่นหนา ผู้อํานวยการโรงพยาบาลมงกุฎวัฒนะ และ พลตรี หม่อมเจ้าจุลเจิม ยุคล ได้เข้าแจ้งความกับเจ้าหน้าที่ตํารวจว่าศราวิน หมิ่นพระบรมเดชานุภาพ ที่อาจต้องโทษสูงสุดถึง 15 ปี หลังจาก เหตุการณ์นี้ โรงพยาบาลทั้งสองแห่งได้ไล่ศราวินออกจากงาน ทําให้ศราวินตัดสินใจเดินทางออกจากประเทศไทยเพื่อลี้ภัย และในปัจจุบัน เขาได้ยื่นสถานะผู้ลี้ภัยกับรัฐบาลแคนาดา 

ความเห็นของศราวินต่อกฎหมายมาตรา 112 นั้น เขามองว่า มันเป็นกฎหมายที่สมควรได้รับการยกเลิก และควรใช้เพียงกฎหมายทั่วไปในการดําเนินคดีหมิ่นประมาท 

ด้วยเหตุผลที่กฎหมายมาตรา 112 ถูกใช้เป็นเครื่องมือทางการเมือง ศราวินเห็นว่า สังคมไทยและนานาประเทศควรสร้างแรงกดดันต่อรัฐบาลไทยและศาลยุติธรรมของไทย เพื่อให้ยกเลิกกฎหมายมาตรานี้เสีย

Saravin Thongrong was born on 13 September 1990. He is currently 33 years old. He was a full-time doctor at Jomtien Hospital and a part-time doctor at the Bangkok Hospital Royong. In January 2021, he was forced to resigne from the two hospitals following his comment on social media deemed insulting against the late K... Bhumi.. Adulya.... He referred to the late king, a bli.. man (note that Bhumibol lost one eye in a car accident in Switzerland in 1948). His statement prompted the two hyper- royalists to file a complaint of lèse-majesté against him with the police. One of the hyper- royalists, Rienthong Nanna, himself a medical doctor and the director of Mongkut Watthana Hospital, began a witchhunt against Saravin. Saravin decided to flee Thailand despite the fact that he had never been politically active. He could be put in jail and the maximum sentence could be up to 15 years. 

Currently, he is seeking a refugee status with the Canadian government. 

Saravin believes that Article 112 should be abolished and that cases involving defamation should be handled by a civil law. 

He is calling for the Thai society and the international community to put pressure on the Thai government and the Thai court to abolish this archaic law.

This is a part of the exhibition at LeRoy Neiman Gallery at Columbia Univ from 18-25 Sept. We will have a mobile exhibition in Chicago (8 Sept) and DC (14 Sept) too. Please help us spread the words on this.
